JERUSALEM (JTA)-
Hundreds of school children

gathered in the Jerusalem
Forest last week to partici-
pate in the dedication of the
Jewish National Fund's ac-
tive recreation area. The
recreation area bears the
name of "Ontario Place,"
since it is financed by the

The pine trees in the rec-

U .S. Army Plays Music, Prays

at Nazi SS Memorial Service

WASHINGTON-The U.S.
Army provided the music

and prayers for a recent
memorial gathering of U.S.
veterans with former Nazi
storm troopers at an SS
graveyard, according to col-
umnist Jack Anderson.
Uniformed members of
the U.S. Eighth Infantry Di-
vision played funeral music
as veterans of the U.S. 70th
Division laid wreaths on-the
graves of dead SS troops
near Bucholz, West Ger-
many, Sept. 26. A U.S. mili-
tary chaplain also pro-
nounced an invocation over
the graves.
According to Anderson,
the gathering was inspired
when three German visitors
from the former SS Sixth
Mountain Hunter Division to
the U.S. met with the broth-
er of a dead 70th Division

soldier, and a reunion was
planned in West Germany.
The SS unit opposed the 70th
in both France and Ger-
many during the,war.

About 80 former Ameri-
can servicemen signed up
for the trip, and they met
the Hitler veterans formally
for the first time in the
French town of Epinal. The
SS men laid a wreath on
U.S. graves in the military
cemetery.

The group then crossed
the border into West Ger-
many, where after the
eaveyard reunion, the

Mayor of Bucholz gave a _
reception. -
Meanwhile, at the Penta-
gon, a U.S. Army spokeS--
man said the participation -
of the band and chaplaiia::,
was the extent of official
U.S. involvement.
