Edna McCann has an in-
terfaith approach in her se-
lections for her "The Heri-

(Macmillan).
Because her selections
are for the year-long, month
by month, it is like a diary
of faith.
Miss McCann's annual ef-
fort at compiling Heritage
Books is like an act of in-
spiration. It is an anthologi-
cal effort to provide for her
readers the best selections
that had come her way.
The blessings of all reli-
gious faiths find expression
in this beautifully illustrated
volume. Exemplary are
three with a Jewish flair
that give evidence to the all-
inclusiveness of her heart-
warming and mind enrich-
ing selections. The three
Jewish annotations are:

the beginning of the Jewish
New Year 5739.
"My friend Beth Reiner

greeting from the rabbi of
the congregation she be-
longs to, and I shall share
part of it with you:

message is: you are here!
Whatever problems you
may have had during the
past year—illness, worry,
trouble—you have survived
them. You are alive, you
are here, and you are not
alone. If you stretch out
your hand you will find
love; if you reach out far
enough you will find the
hand of fellowship out-
stretched by neighbor and
friend.
May the New Year
bring enough charity for
you to see good in your
neighbor, enough love to
move you to be helpful to
others, and enough faith to
make real the things of
God. —
