His synagogue sponsores a Talmud class for both men and women, the largest weekly Bible class in Israel, home study programs and has more than 200 young- sters in its youth programs. Moriah Synagogue has ap- proximately 300 member families, Rabbi Siegel said, in a country where recog- nized synagogues (Ortho- dox) are subsidized by the state. "Ow' stance is not against Orthodoxy, but for the non- committed Jew to become closer to the Jewish reli- gion," he said. Rabbi Siegel said he ran an experimental day camp several years ago in which 40 percent of the partici- pants were from Orthodox homes and 60 percent from Conservative or uncom- mitted homes. "It worked beautifully and fostered mutual under standing, - the rabbi said. Rabbi Siegel, a native of Vermont, made aliya in 1968 after graduating. from the , Jewish Theological Semi- nary.
