Shevat Occasion to Celebrate
JNF Month; 60th Anniversary

The month of Shevat, Jan.
9 to Feb. 7, will be observed
in Greater Detroit and
throughout the state of
Michigan as Jewish Nation-
al Fund Month, and the an-
nual JNF Sabbath will be
marked Jan. 21, Shabat
Shim, according to Mark E.
Schlussel, president of the
Metropolitan Detroit JNF
Council, and Phillip Stoll-
man, chairman of the- JNF -
Synagogue Committee.
Tu b'Shevat, or the 15th
day of the month, referred
to as the JeWish New Year
of Trees, will be celebrated
on Jan. 23. Every syna-
gogue and temple will par-
ticipate in marking JNF
Sabbath. Sermons will be
preached on that day out-
lining the achievements and
aims of JNF during its 76
years. The year 1978 also
will mark the 60th anniver-
sary of Detroit JNF.
Many organizations al-
ready are planning the cele-
bration of JNF month by
arranging special programs
and Meetings. JNF films
and speakers are available.
Thousands of pupils in
Jewish schools will partici-
pate in planting trees in.
Israel, and there will be
special festivities in the
