Goldman, professor of art
history and director of the
Wayne State University
Press, will present, through
slides and narrative, "Dura
Europus—Roots of the Tree
That Never Grew."
Dura Europus, a Third
Century synagogue recently
discovered in Syria, is the
subject of a, book which
Goldman is editing. This
synagogue has particular
significance, said Goldman,
because of its extensive
murals depicting biblical
scenes, a characteristic not
found in any other syna-
gogue as it goes against the
traditional Judaic prohibi-
tion of graven images.
Marc G. Whitefield is
chairman of the lecture
series.
Junior Division activities
will be outlined at an infor-
mal involvement seminar
for young adults interested
in learning more about the
division, 8 p.m. Dec. 20 at
the Whethersfield Apts. club
house in Birmingham.
Chairman of the event is
Eric C. Oppenheim, who
heads the executive
committee.
Jeffrey N. Borin, presi-
dent, will relay informaiton
on the division's programs,
including the Allied Jewish
Campaign-Israel Emer-
gency Fund, for which the
group is already preparing
several events.
For reservations to the
involvement seminar, call
Lilian Bernstein, Junior
Division director, 965-3939.
