swinging gals and their
uncle.
Also added is valet park-
ing. . . as Hugh's Kostere's
takes its place among the
where to go places in North-
west Detroit.
SOMETHING NEW IS
added to Hotel Pontchart-
rain. . . Guests can now
tune in a free one-hour
"Greatest MomentS• In
Sports" program throughout
the day and evening in their
own room.
The - Pontchartrain be-
comes the first hotel in
Michigan to give such free,
closed-circuit programs. . .
Most hotel showings are
usually first-run movies. . .
offered on a charge basis
through coin machine or the
room telephone.
SOL PITT AT Bottle &
Basket, N. 'Hunter in Bir-
mingham, looks good with a
mustache. . . gives him
more character.' . Didn't
know it, but Sol tells of
owning the site now occu-
pied by Stage Delicatessen
even before it was Lieber-
man's, predecessor of
Stage.
AFTER A DELAY of
three weeks, Nanny's Soup
Kettle in Fairlane was final-
ly opened to the public last
week. . . It is the brainchild
of art dealer Eugene Schus-
ter. . . with menus, place-
Mats and waitress uniforms
in art-deco style.
Gene's study into the soup
kitchens of Europe and the
United States, plus his own
experimenting with the
preparation of soups - and
salads in the kitchen of his
art gallery and at home,

prompted the opening of
Nanny's. . . "Soup and sal-
ads are good for all sea-
son," says Gene.
A few of the waitresses
leave things to be desired,
but this can be attributed to
Nanny's newness and the
obvious lack of experience
by them. . . Example of our
girl, after we said the soup
wasn't hot, "It all comes
from the same ' pot.". . .
Note to her and a couple of
others—don't reach across -
the table. . . take a couple
extra steps and serve it
properly.
Nanny's is very good for
shoppers at Fairlane. . .
plus those watching their
waistline.. . Nanny is Eu-
gene's mother, Ann Schus-
ter, who agreed that the
cabbage borscht was not as
thick as the way she used to
make it. . . and gave assur-
ance that it would be
changed for the better.
- Instead of already-dressed
salads being brought to din-
ers at a pre-opening said
Gene, salads were to be
tossed tableside following
the "dry run" for press and
friends.
LOVING CUP with fine
songstress Marlene Hill, is
appearing through Dec. 31,
at Ted's Old Town Inn on
Woodward...Top Jazz Con-
cert at Hotel Pontchart-
r ain's Top Of The
Pontch...for a creative ele-
ment on the Detroit jazz
scene.
WHEN MARCIA Tan-
zman saw "Side by Side by
Sondheim" in Chicago, she
was astonished by the for-
mat. . . Cyril Ritchard nar-
rating the script. . . three
singers providing the enter-
taining songs, assisted by ,
piano accompaniment.
Reason Marcia was sur-
prised was because this is
the exact complement of
performers in Music Plus
One, the musical group to
which she belongs here. . .
narrator Betty Fishman;
three singers, Gloria Book-
stein, Freda Mendelson and
Marcia Tanzman, and at the
piano, Rochelle Barr.
Music Plus One will per-
form for Hadassah in Grand
Rapids, Wednesday. .. the
invitation being an out-
groyith of an all-Gershwin
program performed by
them for the Michigan Re-
gional meeting of Hadassah
in Kalamazoo two years
ago.
The title and first song of
their new program is a
Stephen Sondheim song
from "Gypsy"... "Let Us
Entertain You", whi
ch Cyril
and cast also do.
