German Holocaust Plaque Restored

Parliament in Bonn belong-
ing to the ruling Social
Democratic Party have per-
sonally put up a new memo-
rial plaque, on the 39th anni-
versary of "Kristallnacht.

Israel- Loses Athletic Experts

One of the tragedies of the
yerida problem in Israel is
the fact that many capable
sports administrators and
teachers have left and are
leaving Israel at a fast
pace.
Two of the brightest
young graduates of the
Wingate School of Physical
Education in Natanya now
reside in the U.S. and are
producing excellent results
in the field of bio-mechanics
in sports.
Dr. Gideon Ariel has been
teaching at Amherst College
and Dr. Mell Less has been
a very successful soccer
coach at Adelphi University
in Long Island. Ariel is the
head of Computerized Bio-
Mechanical Analysis, Inc.,
an organization devoted to
improving athletic skills via
film and computer services.
Originally, after gradu-
ating from Wingate, Ariel
came to the U.S. with the
help of the United States
Committee Sports for Israel
to gain a doctorate, while
his classmate Less contin-
ued his physical education
program at Penn State Uni-
versity. Both became
involved in the latest devel-
opments in biological
movement.
Ironically, both men have
offered their services to
Israel through the Ministry
of Education and Culture.
Less advises us that since
he has been working with
physically disabled people,
his particular type of oper-
ation is ideal for Israeli sol-
dier s who are
dismembered. -
Less volunteered to return
to Israel and remains per-
manently to head up this
program, but the bureauc-
racy never gave him a defi-
nite answer to his proposal.

Welfare Board, long a pres-
ence in Israel, now has a
permanent home in
Jerusalem.
Known as the Solomon
and Mary Litt-JWB Israel
Headquarters, the two-story
house was acquired by JWB
last May during the first
World Conference of Jewish
Community Centers, held in
the Israeli capital.
The new facility is more
spacious than the previous
one and, in addition, is more
centrally located, placed at
the intersection of Hess and
Eliot Streets.

NEW YORK—There are
now 509 Hebrew day schools
in 37 states and five Cana-
dian provinces. When the
Torah Umesorah Hebrew
day school movement began
in 1945 there were only 30
schools in three states with
7,000 pupils and today, there
are 93,000 pupils.

Hauser to Address JDC 63rd Parley

NEW YORK—Rita E.
Hauser, former United
States representative to the
United Nations Commission
on Human Rights, attorney
and civic leader, will be the
principal speaker at the
63rd annual meeting of the
Joint Distribution Com-
mittee Dec. 7 at the New
York Hilton Hotel, it was
announced this week by
Ralph I. Goldman, JDC
executive vice president.
Dr. Hauser will address
the closing banquet session,
which will honor Jack D.
Weiler upon his retirement
as president of the major

agency. He will be suc-
ceeded by Donald M.
Robinson.
