the nature of the directories
or that their local agents
were placing ads in them.
They thanked the League
for calling the matter to
their attention.
The directories limit
advertisers to "born-again
Christians" and urge read-
ers to buy only from Chris-
tians. The dominant ones,
called "Christian Yellow
Pages" and "Christian
Business Directory," are
published in some 34 cities
in 14 states, mostly in the
South and the West. How-
ever, these and other inde-
pendent directories of the
same kind - are spreading
throughout the country.
An ADL report on the
directories reveals that in
addition to the "Christian
Yellow Pages' " discrimina-
tory business practices, the
promoters of the directory
— its founder, Paul Seeley
of Portland, Ore., and its
national director, W. R.
Tomson of Modesto, Calif.
— have published a tract
attacking Jews and their
ancestors for not accepting
Jesus Christ as the "Son of
God."
The tract, entitled "The
Moral Imperative of Chris-
tian Yellow Pages," claims
that non-believers in Jesus
Christ "will go to Hell," will
be "eternally lost in outer
darkness," and that to criti-
cize the publication is "an

'Forbid Christmas
in Jewish Home'

NEW YORK—Jewish par-
ents who "emphasize
Christmas at the expense of
Hanuka...deprive their child
of an opportunity to feel
proud of his past and to
develop a positive attitude
toward his roots," a noted
psychologist asserted.
Dr. Alice Ginott, writing
in the current (Dec.) issue
of Ladies' Home Journal,
said that some Jewish chil-
dren plead to "be allowed to
celebrate Christmas with
everyone else, even though
it is not their holiday. Many
Jewish parents find it hrd
to refuse," the practicing
psychologist noted.
"They borrow the style if
not the substance of Christ-
mas and, believing that they
can take the Christian reli-
gion out of Christmas, cre-
ate an artificial holiday for
their children."
According to Dr. Ginott,
though the child may wish
to celebrate Christmas, he
has no need to do it, and
"neither the child's physical
nor emotional well-being
depends on having these
desires gratified."
