National Institute on the
Holocaust claims that "a
good deal of the present
`education' against anti-
Semitism is simply super-
ficial and misdirected."
In its first Holocaust Stud-
ies Newsletter, the institute
says this is because it
"deals only with modem
anti-Semitism of the Nazi
and KKK-type and fails to
draw the knife against the
theological and cultural
anti-Semitism which pro-
vided a fertile seedbed for
ideological/political attacks
on the Jews." .
The newsletter said that
Christian anti-Semitism
began as "theological anti-
Semitism out of which
developed first cultural and
then political anti-:
Semitism."

WASHINGTON (JTA) —
A Defense Department
spokesman said that a
recent article in the Armed
Forces Journal depicting
Israel -as a "militaristic"
state and a "liability" to the
United States does not rep-
resent the views of the
department.
He noted that Defense
Secretary Harold Brown
has stated this in a letter
dated Nov. 3_ to the Anti-
Defamation League of Bnai
Brith. The letter was in
response to an inquiry by
ADL general counsel Arnold
Forster as to whether the
article, by a former Penta-
gon employe, Anthony Cord-
esman, reflected the
Defense Department's
views and whether parts of
it contained classified
info' inat ion.
- The spokesman said the
Pentagon is continuing to
investigate the matter.
Brown stated in his letter to
Forster that "a security
review has been directed to
determine whether any
improper revelation of clas-
sified information has
occurred."
The Armed Forces Jour-
nal, which published the
Cordesman article last
month, is a privately owned
periodical.
