Herbstsman skillfully por-
trayed the Herzl story. In
more than 70 minutes he
traced the life of Herzl from
childhood until his founding
of the World Zionist Organi-
zation and the convening of
the first World Zionist Con-
gress in 1897.
The great personalities
who figured in the life of
Herzl are eminently
referred to in the story and
Dr. Max Nordau appears as
the first of the gerat Jewish
leaders who promptly sup-
ported the Herzl dream for
a Jewish state in spite of the
criticsms directed at him.
The appeals Herzl made
to Baron Maurice de Hirsh
have a prominent part in
the story.

marked the 60th anniver-
sary of the Balfour Declara-
tion which was issued on
Nov. 2, 1917, and because
this year also is the 80th
anniversary of the conven-
ing of the First World Zion-
ist Congress in Basle, the
Hadassah cabaret really
was a triple celebration,
even though the audience
was not alerted to the Zion-
ist anniversaries.
The Herzl story by
Herbstman also mentioned
the fact that Munich Jewry
refused to host the First
World Zionist Congress and
Herzl thereupon arranged
for it to Meet in Basle,
Switzerland.
