JERUSALEM (JTA)-Is
Samuel Flatto-Sharon play-
ing Trilby to someone's Sve-
ngali? That question arose
in the Knesset when it was
reported last week that the
French-born MK is learning
Hebrew under hypnosis to
save the time that would be
consumed by more conven-
tional instruction methods.
The matter was raised by
Labor Alignment MK Moshe
Shahal who wondered if
Knesset members should be
allowed to speak while
under an hypnotic spell.

mind, Shahal wanted to
know.
The question was referred
to a subcommittee of the
House Committee to find an
answer. Flat to's first
speech in Hebrew, delivered
during the debate on the
government's new economic
plan, failed to mesmerize
the Knesset, however.

Baron Guy Blasts
French Jews for
Inciting Split
PARIS (JTA) - Baron
Guy de Rothschild, presi-
dent of the Fonds Social Juif
Unifie (FSJU), rapped the
organizers of the pro-Israeli
fair, "12 Hours for Israel"
for "splitting the Jewish
community at a time when
Israel is in serious danger
and needs more than ever
before our support."
Leaders of France's tradi-
tional Jewish establishment
feared the organizers would
use the demonstration to
plug the Socialist opposition
with which many of them
have close links. Actually,
the demonstration kept out
of local politics though most
speakers rapped the French
government's anti-Israeli
policy.
The FSJU president also
called upon the government
to change its policy as far
as Israel is concerned and
said that "common sense
will win and the policy will
change."
