dedicate a plaque com-
memorating Detroit's first
known Jew, Chapman Abra-
ham, Nov. 20, following the
Book Fair lecture of Ber-
nard Postal, in the main
Jewish Community Center
library.
Chapman Abraham
arrived in Detroit in 1763,
and traded in the city for
many years. He spent his
last years in Montreal,
where he was a member of
Canada's first Jewish con-
gregation, Shearith Israel.
Speakers for the dedica-
tion will include Doris
