his recent trip to Israel.
Guest speaker Ben-Ari,
who until recently served as
executive vice president of
Israel Communications in
Jerusalem, has also held a
number of key diplomatic
posts. Widely recognized as
a spokesman for the Israel
Foreign Service, he has car-
ried out special missions as
an adviser to many devel
oping countries around the
world.
Other Israel government
assignments have taken
Ben-Ari to the United
Nations, Europe and the
United States as his coun-
try's representative on vari-
ous international bodies and
at major conferences. He
has also lectured _ exten-
sively at universities and
other institutions throughout
Europe.,and North America.
Born in Johannesburg,
South Africa, Beii-Ari emi-
grated to Israel in 1952 and
lived on a kibutz for eight
years. He then settled in
Kiryat Gat, a new devel-
opment town in the Negev
desert. He was a member of
the town's municipal coun-
cil and one of the planner's
for the establishment of this
and other new Negev
communities.
Ben-Ari currently resides
in Jerusalem where he
serves as an adviser to the
municipality of Jerusalem
in its international relations.
Meanwhile, Ben-Ari will
be guest speaker at the Phy-
sicians Division dinner-
dance to be held on behalf
of State of Israel Bonds 7:30
p.m., Wednesday, at Cong.
Beth Achim.
Dr. H. Saul Sugar will be
honored as the first' Mich-
igan recipient of the state of
Israel'• "Maimonides
Award." Dr. Sugar, chair-
man of the department_ of
ophthalmology at Sinai Hos-
pital and 'clinical professor
of ophthalmology at Wayne
State University, will be
presented the award "in
appreciation for his interest
