Canadian Declares
Support for Israel
JERUSALEM (JTA)—
Canadian Minister of Exter-
nal Affairs Donald Jamie-
son told Israeli leaders last
week that there is "a uni-
versal commitment in Can-
ada to Israel's survival"
and declared that if the
Arab nations were as flex-
ible as, Israel the Geneva
peace conference could be
reconvened.
Jamieson arrived in
Israel Oct. 26 for a four-day
official visit. Israel relates
,particular importance to
Canada's Mideast position,
due to her current member-
ship in the UN Security
Council until January, 1979
and her participation in the
Mideast UN observer
forces.

for Golda. Beame
NEW YORK—Former
Secretary of State Henry A.
Kissinger will present the
1977 Stephen Wise Award to
Golda Meir at a dinner of
the American Jewish Con-
gress Nov. 13 at the Plaza
Hotel in New York.
Rep. Edward I. Koch (D-
NY) will present a Stephen
Wise Award at the dinner to
Mayor Abraham D. Beame.
`Soviets Liked
Likud Victory'

— Contary to what is gener-
ally believed, the Soviet
government did not receive
Likud's victory in last
May's Israeli elections with
concern, but rather with a
sense of relief that a new
government would be more
able to. make critical deci-
sions, writes Soviet journal-
ist Viktor Luois, in an
article translated and pub-
lished in the Israeli paper,
Yediot Achronot.
