ONE OF THE FEW types
of entertainment packages
that has no in between...it's
either good . or bad...is the
newest rage of dinner thea-
ter presentations...We have
only been to four of them so
far, and can hardly call our-
selves much of an author-
ity...However, we do like to
pride ourselves on having
an opinion of what con-
stitutes good and bad,
regardless of what it may
be.
Dinner theater has sud-
denly gotten so very popular
that in many instances sell-
out crowds have become
commonplace...At our table,
recently, a young couple
had never been to one
before...Their decision to go
was a simple but honest
one..."We were going to
have dinner and see a show
anyway."
Our latest risit to one was
seeing Paul Winter in "Mar-
riage Go Round" down-
stairs at Somerset
Mall...Paul, known here-
abouts as Detroit's contem-
porary philosopher, is mar-
velously entertaining as he
weaves the lines with
intimate notes of pure
professionalism.
The play revolves around
a French-accented lecturer
(Paul) and his women's
dean wife (Judith Jaye

Cooper) in a battle-of-the-
sexes comedy...Both speak
to the audience, he on mon-
ogamy and she on mar-
riaje...then partake in sam-
ples of their actual home
life.
This clever comedy pre-
sents choice lines that are
well-timed in precision pre-
sentation...Paul is so natu-
ral in his acting...We didn't
recognize him at first...with
hair on his head and beard
both died brown- from the
usual gray.
The casting by Pierre
Turgeon who, with Jimmy
Launce, are producers of
"Marriage Go-Round," is
excellent... Paul and Judy do
their roles to per-
fection...Patricia Albrecht
is wonderful, too...and Rob-
ert Jordan plays his part
well.
Dinner theater has its
danger, though...The actors
can do a most creditable
and entertaining job on
stage, but for naught if the
audience has already been
turned off...This crucial
time is when the people first
eat...The buffet must be
good...and the attendees sat-
isfied...otherwise those poor
actors and actresses on
stage will have two strikes
against them before a word
is uttered.

We were at "Marriage
Go-Round" on an evening
attended by 164 in the 150
capacity room...It was like
one big party...and our table
was the seventh one
called...We half expected
everything to be gone by
then...or whatever was left
to be cold...However, unlike
the first dinner theater we
attended, food galore was
brought fresh constantly
from Alfred's in the mall
and placed in pans atop
burners...The salad selec-
tions were also fresh...The
food was good...there was
enough to make a person's
tummy happy, and those on
stage were able to give their
performances without a
handicap.
Paul, with his French
accent, has a script, as do
all the others, but being the
unpredictable person that
he is, the cast can't always
be sure of what he'll say or
do...To the average show-
goer, everything Paul does
seems as it should
be...Evelyn 'Orbach one
time told Paul, "People
spend time writing this
stuff. Why don't you do the
lines their way instead of
however you want?"...Last
time they were on TV
together for the Jewish
Community Council, Evie
shook her head and said,
"Paul, nobody ever knows
what you're going to do
next."
So we're now batting
.500...Two out of four isn't a
bad average...and the way
dinner theater is catching
