Originated at the 1977 con- vention to the Rabbinical Assembly, when 50 mem- bers of the assembly signed a statement calling for the creation of an official new Zionist group, it has since been endorsed by the assembly's administrative committee. The terrorists demanded the release of 11 members of the notorious Baader- Meinhoff group imprisoned in West Germany, and 15 million dollars in ransom for their hostages. They said they sought "the release of our comrades detained in prisons of the imperialist-reactionary Zionist alliance." The state-_ ment also said the hijack operation 'was code named "Kfar Kaddoum," the name of a recently established Israeli settlement on the West Bank. The _Israel Broadcasting Service inadvertently gave away the German plans before the Somalia oper- ation was completed. By chance it monitored com- munications between the German commando plane and its base in Germany. The journalistic "scoop" was broadcast on Israeli television Monday night. When the West German authorities learned of it they appealed to all news media to kill the story which was done. Nevettheless, author- ities here have warned Israeli news editors and reporters to be more careful in the future about pub- licizing such information. ISRAELI CHASSIDIC FESTIVAL Sun., Nov. 13, 1977 JWV Bodzin Post 414 355-5765 SPITZER'S of Harvard Row German Warns of Anti-Semitism BONN (JTA)—Karl Car- sten, president of the Ger- man Bundestag (Parlia- ment) has warned against a revival of anti-Semitic ten- dencies in the country. Addressing a meeting of the German Soldiers' Associ- ation, Carstens said recent anti-Jewish incidents at a Munich army academy were damaging to the repu- tations of both the Federal Republic and its army. But Carstens stressed that the army had done its utmost to represent an "uncompromi- singly - democratic" standpoint. Defense Ministry sources have, meanwhile, confirmed (following an investigation) press reports that young officers at the Munich acad- emy engaged in a symbolic "Jew burning" while sing- ing Nazi songs. The officers did not—as prviously reported—write "Jude" on scraps of paper and card- board which were tossed into a fire. But they did shout "throw another Jew in" as they fed the fire. The Ministry has also con- firmed further anti-Semitic incidents in the army this year. A lieutenant who dis- tributed anti-Semitic post- ers and stickers in Ham- burg was dismissed from the army. Another officer had been imprisoned for six months and stripped of his rank for engaging in "incitement against a cer- tain group" (volksverhetzung ).
