to Gather Tuesday

The Israel Numismatic
Society of Michigan will
meet 8 p.m. Tuesday in the
Jewish Community Center's
10 Mile branch.
Guest speakers include
Nahom Hacohn, North
American representative of
the Israel Government
Coins and Medals Corp.;
Morris Bram, president of
the American Israel Numis-
matic Association; Stan
Yulish, AINA board mem-
ber, who will present a slide
prop-am; George Hattie,
vice president of the Ameri-
can Numismatic Associ-
ation; and Florence Schook,
ANA board member. The
Michigan State Numismatic
Society and the Michigan
Medals and Token Society
have been invited.

Appeal on Behalf of Retarded Made to Jewish Community

Jewish participation in
the Community Training
Home program of the
Macomb Oakland Regional
Center for the severly
retarded in nominal, and
homes in southern Oakland
County are especially being
sought to place the retarded
who are being removed
from insitutions to family
situations where they can
better learn developmental
skills.
Appealing to the Jewish
community to offer homes
for the severly retarded,
Jane Dewey, recruitment
specialist and publicist for
the MORC described the
program.
Founded in 1972 as part of
the state Department of
Mental Health, the Commu-
nity Training Home pro-
gram is geared toward the
deinstitutionalization of the
severly retarded. A total of
750 clients have been
removed from insitutions
and placed with families in
the community.
The family aids the client
in the development of per-
sonal skills, communication
skills and socialization.
The foster family is
alloted a $630 stipend, half
from Social Security to
cover the cost of room and
board and a personal allow-
ance for the client, • and the
other from the Department
of Mental Health for
training.
Prior to placement there
is a screening and training
process for the prospective
foster parent (s ) , during
which there is a three-day
orientation covering such
topics as an introduction to

Seymour, who will receive
the state of Israel's United
Jerusalem Award, has been
active in the Israel Bond
program and the United
Jewish Appeal, was a Bnai
Brith lodge president for
three years, a Beth Israel
board member for 17 years,
and has been involved in
CAPS, an organization aid-
ing the handicapped, for
more than 20 years.

Mrs. Kaminsky
Seeks Re-Election
to School Board

Bertha Sokolov Kaminsky
is running for re-election to
the Detroit School Board,
Region Four.
Born in Detroit, Mrs.
Kaminsky was educated in
the Detroit Public Schools.
She has a Bachelor of Sci-
ence degree in medical
technology from Wayne
State University.
. A graduate of the Sholem
Aleichem school, Mrs.
Kaminsky is a member of
Pioneer Women, and she
and her husband are mem-
bers of the Labor Zionist
Alliance.
She has been a member of
the Detroit board for seven
years. As the highest vote
getter, she is chairman of
her region and a member of
the Central Board of Educa-
tion. She is the only woman
on her board.
