Dunkelman, author of "Dual Allegiance," is the national commander of the Jewish War Veterans of Canada. He will be the next Israel Bond chairman of Toronto. Dunkelman is a larger than life hero in two coun- tries. A Canadian who won the DSO in World War II and turned down a safe seat in Parliament to stay at the front, he also played a deci- sive part in Israel's 1948 -War for Independence, help- ing to break the siege of Jerusalem and (at Ben- Gurion's request) com- manding the 7th Brigade that won the war in the north. As former Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin notes in his foreward to "Dual Allegiance," "a bridge that skirts the Lebanese frontier is named `Ben's Bridge'. It is Israel's way of acknowledging the exploits of a brave soldier and a proud Jew who came to his people's aid at a deci- sive crossroads in its history". Dunkelman's lecture, "Israel and Its Public Rela- tions," is open to the public without charge. For infor- mation, call the Jewish Community Center, 661- 1000, ext. 275.
