chairman, Phyllis Schwartz,
along with her vice chair-
men, Sally Rodin and
Beverly Canvasser, say that
this year's fair promises to
be the most exciting ever.
Book Fair will open at 8
p.m. Nov: 12- with Marvin
Kalb and Ted Koppel,
authors of "In the National
Interest." These national
TV news broadcasters will
be joined during the week of
Book Fair by Ben Dunkel-
man, Robert Kimmel
Smith, Rabbi Lawrence
Kushner, Alvin - Rosenfeld;
Lulla Rosenfeld, J. Bowyer
Bell, A.H. Raskin, Dr. Neil
Rosenstein, Ira Hirsch-
mann, Stephen M. Poppel,
Rabbi Hayim Donin, John
Phillips, Howard Blum,
Bernard Postal, Harriet
Schiff, and many others, as

.

well as children's pro-
grams, a Yiddish-English
theater evening, Chaim
Grade, the Yiddish author;
and Natan Shaham, well-
known to Hebrew speaking
audiences.
Fifty co-Sponsoring Jew-
ish organizations take part
in Book Fair and hundreds
of volunteers work through-
out the year to make the
,Book Fair a success.
Dunkelman, who will
speak 8 p.m. Nov. 14, is
being co-sponsored by the
Synagogue and Temple
Men's Clubs of Metropolitan
Detroit.

Dunkelman, author of
"Dual Allegiance," is the
national commander of the
Jewish War Veterans of
Canada. He will be the next
Israel Bond chairman of
Toronto.
Dunkelman is a larger
than life hero in two coun-
tries. A Canadian who won
the DSO in World War II
and turned down a safe seat
in Parliament to stay at the
front, he also played a deci-
sive part in Israel's 1948
-War for Independence, help-
ing to break the siege of
Jerusalem and (at Ben-
Gurion's request) com-
manding the 7th Brigade

that won the war in the
north.
As former Israeli Prime
Minister Yitzhak Rabin
notes in his foreward to
"Dual Allegiance," "a
bridge that skirts the
Lebanese frontier is named
`Ben's Bridge'. It is Israel's
way of acknowledging the
exploits of a brave soldier
and a proud Jew who came
to his people's aid at a deci-
sive crossroads in its
history".
Dunkelman's
lecture,
"Israel and Its Public Rela-
tions," is open to the public

without charge. For infor-
mation, call the Jewish
Community Center, 661-
1000, ext. 275.
