LONDON (JTA)—The British Labor Party, tradi- tionally friendly towards Israel, is being pressed by pro-Arab supporters to issue a statement recognizing the Palestine Liberation Organ- ization as the representative of the Palestinian people. The proposals were made recently at a meeting of the special Middle East sub- committee of the Party's International Affairs Com- mittee under the chairman- ship of Eric Heffer, a for- Ther minister. The meeting, held on Rosh Hashana, was not attended by two members who represent the British Poale Zion, an affiliate of the Labor Party. They are expected to oppose the draft statement at the next meet- ing of the subcommittee in October. iiiii1411 14109i s too l° IPT 4t6ggi, 00 18 - 36 mos. 21/2 - 5 years 5 - 6- years Mother - Toddler Nursery School Kindergarten 'Hound trip transportation available. Heffer, who is prominent in the Labor Friends of Israel, argued that such a statement would further harm the prestige and morale of the Israeli Labor _Party in the wake • of its electoral defeat. However, he felt that Israel will even- tually have to deal with the PLO and he may put this view to Yigal Allon when the former Israeli Foreign Minister visits Britain for the forthcoming Labor Party conference. Primarily interested in aiding the aged. Fleischman held many official posts in the Jewish Home for the Aged and served the agency as president, presently remaining active as a mem- ber of the board. Under his leadership, the Jewish Home for the Aged expanded in its nresent building and consummated plans for additional exten- sive services for the elderly. Fleischman also served on the boards of Cong. Shaarey Zedek, the Jewish Welfare Federation, the Jewish Community Center and Federation Apartments. Besides having organized and continuing to head the Peerless Distributing Co., which is marketing petro- leum products, Fleischman is chairman of the boards of Lakeside Refining Co., Kalamazoo, Mich., and Crystal Refining Co., Car- son City, Mich.
