Women's League Presidents Meet
The League of Jewish
Women's Organizations of
Greater Detroit will hold its
all-presidents meeting noon
Oct. 13 at Cong. Beth
Achim. P,residents of Jew-
ish women's organizations
in the metropolitan Detroit
area will be honored.
Following a petite lunch-
eon, a program on child
abuse, "What's Happening
to Our Children?" will be
presented. Guest speakers
will be Sen. Donald Riegel
(or his aide): John Cole, di-
rector of family and chil-
dren services of the Mich-
igan Department Social
Services of Lansing; and
Alice Belden, director of
the social services depart-
ment of Children's Hospital
of Michigan. The moderator
will be Jim Harrington of
WXYZ-TV.
League president is Es-
ther Rosenblum. Program
chairman is Corrine Oppen-
heim, vice president. The
public is invited.
Books by Jewish Authors
Displayed at Moscow Book Fair
NEW YORK—Books by
the late tsraeli Nobel Prize
winner S. Y. Agnon will be
included among those exhib-
ited at the International
Book Fair slated to begin
Tuesday in Moscow.
The book fair also will
feature of an exhibit from
the Association of Jewish
Book Publishers who will
display more than 200
books, including titles rang-
ing from Jewish history,
education, religion and cul-
ture to fiction in English
translation. Jacob Stein-
berg, president of the asso-
ciation, said that ' pray-
erbooks and titles in Yidd-
ish and Hebrew will be ex-
hibited.

54.000 students in the New
York metropolitan area
began attending classes in
209 Hebrew Day Schools of-
fering a combined program
of religious and secular
studies as the new school
year began Wednesday.
According to Torah
Umeserah, the National So-
ciety for Hebrew Day
Schools. there will be 135
elementary schools and 74
high schools in the greater
New York area which in-
cludes Nassau, Suffolk and
Westchester Counties along
with New York City's five
boroughs.
