"How can the Jewish people live with social in- justice?" Begin asked the 300 community leaders of this largest ever leadership mission. "Poverty in our midst is intolerable at a time when we must be strong. - Leonard R. Strelitz, UJA general chairman, an- swered that American Jewry would respond gener- ously with strength as he an- nounced a $700 million cam- paign goal for 1978. In a dramatic farewell dinner in the Knesset last Thursday, at the conclusion of the four-day mission, Begin called American Jewry the greatest asset to the people of Israel. He stressed the need to help solve the severe housing problems affecting 45,000 immigrant families in Is- rael.
