Mrs. Shenkman's role in the community exemplifies her dedication to Judaism. She is known to encourage the mitzva of candlelighting by giving gifts of candle- sticks to newlyweds and has often aided indigent im- migrant mothers-to-be. A son, Arnold, is studying at the Lubavitch Talmudic Academy in Morristown, N.J. Shenkman was for 20 years a board member, offi- cer and president of the United Hebrew Schools for which he was instrumental in beginning many projects.
