Katzir made his plea dur-

Klaus Schuetz, the new
West German Ambassador,
presented his credentials.
"The shadow of the past
is still with us and will re-
main with us forever," the
President said. "Some Nazi
criminals are still at
large."

on Spitz's Home

LOS ANGELES (JTA)—A

was painted on the garage
door of Mark Spitz, the for-

Austrian Bishop
Hits Anti-Semitism

VIENNA
(JTA)—The
Bishop of the Austrian Prot-
estant Church, Oskar Sak-
rausky, has condemned re-
cent anti-Semitic actions in
Vienna.
In an appeal to all mem-
bers of the Protestant
Church, the Bishop asked
them to join him in - con-
demning anti-Semitism.
"We must act to nip any
anti-Semitism in the bud be-
fore it is too late," Sak-
rausky said.
He referred to recent in-
cidents in which a Jewish
cemetery, a synagogue, and
a monument for Sigmund
Freud were daubed with
swastikas and anti-Semitic
slogans.

WASHINGTON (JTA)—

Sen. Richard Stone (D-Fla.)
will submit legislation in
the near future to enable
the Immigration and Natu-
ralization Service (INS) to
deport individuals when
there is substantial evi-
dence that they committed
war crimes under the
Nazis.
The Stone bill would add
such criminals to those who
can be deported. A similar
measure has been in-
troduced in the House by
Rep. Elizabeth Holtzman
(D-NY) and has been en-
dorsed by INS Commission-
er Lionel Castillo. The INS
is investigating 109 cases in-
volving Nazi war crimes.

the Displaced Persons Act
of 1953, "immigrants are no
longer questioned" _ about
their activities during
World War II, according to
a statement from Stone's of-
fice.

for a very

Happy New Year!

"The Carter Adminis-
tration has shown a determi-
nation to seek out Nazi war
criminals who have tried to
conceal atrocities they corn-
mitted," Stone said. "Con-
gressional action is needed
if INS is to follow through
on these cases and bring
the individuals to trial in
Europe." -

PLO Losing Youth

TUNIS (ZINS)—The Pa-
lestine Liberation Organiza-
tion has acted to head off
an exodus of Palestinian

Arafat has asked the Iraqi
and Libyan embassies in
Lebanon to stop issuing
visas to Palestinians aged
18 to 30, who are eligible
for conscription by the
PLO.
As many as 10,000 Palesti-
nians have applied by visas
at the two embassies in the
last two months.
