Its 24th biennial national convention, a "Golden Ju- bilee" celebration, which will be attended by over 1,500 delegates from all over the United States. will ear ilaPPY new INTRODUCING THE GOLDEN EAGLE STATEMENT SAVINGS ACCOUNT It's 1 0/ The original nucleus was organized by a group prima- rily composed of women who had either seen the vocational program of ORT in operation in Europe or whose husbands were ac- tive in the American ORT Federation. The first honor- ary president of WAO was Mrs. Albert Einstein. Keeping pace with the in- creasing technologizing of the world's economies, the ORT network grew as its supporting organization spread rapidly throughout the United States. In 1955, WAO had about 10,000 mem- bers, primarily in the north- east, the middle west and on the west coast. Today, Women's American ORT numbers 130,000 members in 1,055 chapters from coast to coast. The group is repre- sented in every large and in- termediate sized city in the country and in many small- er communities. - 0 daily interest with FREE services for you. Our new-Golden Eagle Statement Savings Account has a lot going for you. In addition to the organi- zation's substantial finan- cial support of the ORT pro- gram and vigorous educa- tional activities, WAO has, over the five decades of its existence, set its own unique stamp of the ORT program. Because of its em- phasis on the "social role" of ORT, the primarily high- school oriented program was expanded to include those who lacked education- al prerequisites. Thus, in North Africa an'c in several underdeveloped countries, apprenticeship and even pre-apprentice- ship courses were estab- lished. Because of Women's American ORT's efforts, the "American presence" of ORT was established, as the organization offered ORT's nearly century-old expertise to local, state and federal governments. Many of the outstanding schools in the ORT network were totally 0; partially fi- nanced by Women's Amen- can ORT. They include the Aron Syngalowski Center in Tel Aviv, the Jeannette Gayl Center in Haifa, the John F. Kennedy Appren- ticeship Center in Jerusa- lem, the Lyon School in Lyon, France, and most re- cently, the ORT School of Engineering on the campus of the Hebrew University in Jerusalem.
