The $6,000 grant will support six artists in resi- dence at the home's two fa- cilities in Detroit and South- field. The project is entitled "Montage '77: a Multi-Dis- ciplinary Approach to the Creative Arts" and will bring to the 310 aged resi- dents exposure to numerous art forms and opportunities for creative, active partici- pation and experimentation. This pilot program is de- signed to take the arts to au- diences which could not oth- erwise take advantage of these experiences. Charles Wolfe, executive director of the Jewish Home for Aged, believes the program will fire the residents' imagination, as well as bring excitement to the entire facility. "Many elderly face empti- ness brought on by societal disengagement and are also confronted by numerous losses and voids effected by the aging process. Art expe- riences within an elderly community may therefore generate not only creativity and personal satisfaction, but can serve a therapeutic purpose as well," explained Cheryl Riskin, project direc- tor for Montage '77. Art can assist in the devel- opment of a sense of person- al identity. It may help the confined individual to organ- ize his or her perception of the environment, and to es- tablish a relationship with the outside world." Montage '77 will encom- pass a variety of art forms, including dance, visual arts, instrumental music, vocal music, poetry and lit- erature, and theatre. Resi- dents of the Jewish Home for Aged will be encour- aged to explore all facets of each art form. The artists-in-residence will assist residents in learn- ing of the development, techniques, styles, and in- fluences of the particular art field; discovering inter- ests and abilities in each area; and identifying new means of artistic expres- sion which could be in- corporated into their par- ticular life styles. An advisory board has been formed by the Jewish Home for Aged to assist in the development and guid- ance of the artist-in-resi- dence program. The board is comprised of recognized local Michigan artists, resi- dents of the Home, Ms. Ris- kin and Wolfe. 1 /3 1 /4 1 /3 Cream margarine, sugar and vanilla. Blend in flour.
