turies no music was heard
in a synagogue; but as Cath-
olic and Protestant reli-
gious services grew more
and more opulent. Jewish
worshippers, too, sought mu-
sical enrichment. Toward,
the end of the Renaissance,
in a radical departure from
tradition, synagogues began
to employ professional can-
tors.

Old Timers Set
Memorial Service

Timers annual memorial
services will be held 8 p.m.,
Sept. 15 at the 10 Mile
branch of the Jewish Com-
munity Center, according to
Zangwill Burnstine, presi-
dent, and Harry T. Madi-
son, chairman for the me-
morial services.
Rabbi Leon Fram of
Temple Israel will deliver
the main address, and Can-
tor Harold Orbach, also of
the temple, will chant the
El Mole Rachamim.
All friends, widows and
families of deceased mem-
bers are invited to partici-
pate in the memorial serv-
ices, at which time each de-
ceased member will be me-
morialized.
Refreshments will be
served.

Melody Musicale will
have its first meeting of the
year 8 p.m. Sunday in the
home of Louise Lazarus,

ture Ms. Lazarus, soprano;
Clarence Sharp, baritone;
and David Wilson, pianist.
The group's Melody Musi-
cale ensemble, which meets
Wednesday evenings, an-
nounces it has openings.
