Volunteers Sought for Telethon Aid .

More than 3,000 volun-
teers from Wayne, Oak-
land. Macomb and Washte-
naw Counties and Windsor,
Ontario, are needed to an-
swer telephones and record
pledges during the 1977
Jerry Lewis Labor Day
Telethon for Muscular Dys-
trophy scheduled to be tele-
cast 9 p.m. Sunday-6:30
p.m. Monday on Channel 2.

Volunteers who are age
18 and older will be asked
to report to the Jerry Lewis
Telephone Center nearest
their homes, for a five-hour
shift of their choice. Tele-
phone centers are located
this year in the Northland.

Dr. Sugar recently con-
tributed equipment for a
glaucoma clinic at the new
Eye Institute at Chaim
Sheba Medical Center in
Tel-Hashomer.
In tribute to Dr. Sugar
and in support of Israel's
economic -development pro-
gram, the Israel Bond Medi-
cal Physicians Division has
begun an out-reach cam-
paign, inviting medical doc-
tors through their special-
ities, from hospitals, and in
their geographic areas to
join in purchasing Israel
Bonds, either as personal in-
vestments or through pen-
sion funds, profit-sharing or
Keogh plans.
"The Israel Bonds pur-
chased in honor of our es-
teemed colleague will help
provide urgently needed
loan funds to Israel for the
expansion of her export pro-
duction of medical equip-
ment, electronics and chem-
icals. Israel has a waiting
market for these goods in
Western Europe and the Eu-
ropean Common Market
has recently lifted all tariff
barriers on Israeli goods,"
Dr. Hamburger said.
Dr. Sugar, a native De-
troiter, is a graduate of
Wayne State University,
University of Michigan, and
University of Michigan Med-
ical School. During World
War II, he served as chief
of eye service at Barnes
General Hospital.
In private practice for
more Clan 30 years, Dr.
Sugar is also a consultant
in ophthalmology at Detroit
Memorial, Harper and Oak-
wood Hospitals and the di-
rector of the Glaucoma Clin-
ic at Detroit General Hospi-
tal. He has written more
than 203 publications includ-
ing the first book on glauco-
ma.
