Cardin Role in Boycott Denied;
Operations in Israel Continue

NEW YORK (JTA)—Rep-
resentatives of Pierre Car-
din in the U.S. and Canada
say reports that the world-
famous designer bowed to,
Arab boycott pressures and
has withdrawn from busi-
ness in Israel are com-
pletely groundless. a spokes-
man for Cardin said.-
North American com-
panies which are licensed
to produce Cardin-deSigned
merchandise here say that
they have received first-
and reports from Bagir. a
ern pant' sub-licensed to
nufacture Cardin men's
clothing in Israel. that its
representatives are meeting
in September with the de-
signer and his associates in
Paris to discuss future oper-
ations.
Bagir has been sub-li-
censed to manufacture Car-
din men's wear in Israel by
the House of Bril. a French
firm which holds the li-
cense to produde and dis-
tribute Cardin clothing in
France and several other
countries including those
, int he Middle East.
During the past week. a
North American licensee
visiting Israel met with ex-
ecutives of Bagir. the Car-
din spokesman said. The
Bagir representatives point-
ed out that the license
agreement with Bril was
due to expire this year and
had not been renewed. a
move which apparently trig-
gered a number of negative

meeting in Paris may deter-
mine whether Cardin mer-
chandise will continue to be
manufactured in Israel or

done with almost nail other
countries in the Middle
East.
Cardin has said there is
every intention to continue
to do busineSs in Israel. the
spOkesman affirmed.

agency of the Federation of
.Jewish Agencies. for con-
version into 180 apartments
for the elderly.

hundred members of Hadas-
sah - WIZO from all over
Canada met at the Four
Seasons Hotel here in order
to assess the activities of
the child guidance clinic
and research institute
which it sponsors in Jerusa-
lem. Numerous psycholo-
gists. sociologists and educa-
tors also participated.
Dr. Reuven Feuerstein.
assisted by Malka Hoffman
and Dr. Yaakov Rande of
the Jerusalem Research In-
stitute. explained how.
through the enrichment pro-
gram and the learning po-
tential devices. handi-
capped children in Israel
have become fully able and
responsible citizens.
Feuerstein. who pio-
neered the methods of devel-
oping the natural abilities
in retarded children. ex-
plained how his methods
achieved international suc-
cess and are being applied
in United States clinics and
universities dealing with
handicapped children.
The Hadassa- h-WIZO of
Canada, whose 60th anniver-
sary will be celebrated this
year, holds its annual con-

vention in Jerusalem Nov.
6-16.

whole month of September
to the distribution of infor-
mation regarding the hu-
manitarian role played by
Hadassah-WIZO both in Can-
ada and Israel. - Mrs. Clara
