I think its important that
the .Jewish community be
aware of the strong streak
of anti-Semitism active in
the city of Southfield in the
effort to recall five of the
six members of the South-
field City Council.
Many Jewish people sign-
ed those recall petitions be-
cause they were told that
they were petitions against
low-cost housing. In reality.
they were signing petitions
to remove all the Jewish
elected officials from the
City Council. Look at the
facts:

units required by the state
are to be in homes scat-
tered all over the city.
homes which are in dis-
repair and which will be up-
graded. improved and occu-
pied by Southfield citizens.
Four of the five coun- •
cilmen being re-called are
Jewish. and petitions for
the one non-Jewish member
collected the fewest signa-
tures. -

The Southfield News re-
ceived a letter blaming the
entire controversy on a
"conniving Jew" who would
reap huge profits. The de-
veloper of the senior citi-
zens home is Jewish.
If the recall is successful,
there will not be a single
elected Jewish city offiCial.
The, crime which the
Southfield Council is being
accused of ic attempting to
meet the needs of the city's
citizens and being Jewish.
The .Jews at least should
not let themselves be used
by those trying to divide
the city and to destroy
themselves.
This --council acted with
dignity and class in their be-
havior to maintain a viable
city. Their only crime was
to abide by the laws and to
give support to the needs of
senior citizens.
