Alfred (Al) Michaels, di-
rector of the Histadrut Cam-
paign in Detroit since 1961,
is moving to St. Louis, Mo.,
for a position with the Jew-
ish Federation of St. Louis.
Michaels will be director
of the St. Louis - federation's
endowment program, and
during the United Jewish
Appeal drive will be work-
ing with the community's at-
torneys and accountants.
Michaels said the change
was brought about by a re-
organization of the Hista-
drut Campaign on the na-
tional level. He said that De-
troit and Cleveland and
their nearby localities will
be part of a single region.
The current director in
Cleveland, Sam Hoenig,
will be director for the re-
gion.
Michaels said he was
very proud of last year's
Histadrut Campaign in the
Detroit area, which he said
was the most successful in
his 16 years here.
A native of Germany, Mi-
chaels emigrated to the
U.S. in 1938 and lived in Is-
rael from 1949 to 1951. He
had been active in fund-
raising and with several
Jewish organizations in
New York before coming to
Detroit.

is believed to be a record
number of students from
any one congregation.
The others include Harold
Caminker, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Jack Caminker, who
will be ordained next June
from the Cincinnati
campus; James Goodman,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry
Goodman, a second-year
rabbinical student; and Dan-
iel Pernick, honored by the
congregation a week ago as
he left for Jerusalem to
begin rabbinical studies.
Besides Wartell, students
for the cantorate are Gail
Posner Karp, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Seymour Pos-
ner, who will be invested in
June; and Alane seth
Simons, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Frank L. Simons,
a second-year student.
Wartell will chant a por-
tion of tonight's service at
Temple Israel and also will
receive several awards.
