YASSOO GREEK Village
on Woodward just south of
14 Mile Rd. has been re-
vamped into its original cas-
ting...Pete "Mr. Every-
thing" Peponis is back as
general manager...and Ted
James, chef who opened
Yassoo, has returned... Both
of these gents can make a
big difference in a place
like Yassoo...and when they
left, it was a noticeable
loss...Now that Pete and
Ted are back, Yassoo
should be as good as it was
when first - opened...and it
really was good.
Another big asset is Matt
Vocino, Pete's right-hand
young man, Who will also
be in charge of banquets
and parties...This trio is a
good combination to go
with Yassoo's fine food.
Probably first week in
September Yassoo's lunch
menu • will change...leaning
more toward American
dishes...Greek foods will
still be available at lunch-
time...It's just that many
folks find it a little too
heavy during the daY...and
Yassoo wants to give a
choice.

B
tore, serving an average of
24.000 people a week...That
was the success story of
Sam Boesky and Darbys on
Seven Mile Rd. and Wyom-
ing.
1917 saw the opening of
the original Boesky's by
Sam, who just four years
before had come to -Amer-
ica from Russia at the age
of 13...As the years went
by, Sam opened other de-
licatessens around Detroit,
but finally decided that his
personal attention and serv-
ice were necessary in keep-
ing with his motto that the
customer comes first.
It was in Jan., 1955 that
Sam Boesky opened Darbys
Restaurant, soon to become
the showplace of the Middle
West, employing 120 people,
seating 375 and catering to
folks from all walks of
life...The person next to you
at Darbys could be the
owner of a bank, a famous
show personality or just
someone who enjoyed good
food and the very best in
service.
The finest in cooking was
served at Darbys, whether
it be at breakfast, lunch,
dinner or a late evening
snack...Included in the
sumptuous atmosphere of
elegance and congeniality
was a complete carry-out
department, coffee shop,
private banquet room, din-
ing room and cocktail
lounge...Other distinct
Darbys features were the
mouth-watering pastries
and baked goods- made
right on the premises.
