NORMAN ALLAN
M. Alterman, Irving A. Au-
gust, Donald E. Banis, J.
Leonard Hyman and Sharon
M. Woods.
Two years ago Adat Sha-
lom became one of the first
synagogues in the United
States to file a petition
under Chapter XI of the
Federal Bankruptcy Act.
The petition was filed
when the congregation
could not come to terms
with the general contractor
that built the synagogue
and could not meet its mort-
gage _ payments.
Allan recently, announced
that the Federal Bank-
ruptcy Court had accepted
a proposal for payment in
full over a period of 10
years to the synagogue's un-
secured creditors and dis-
charged the institution from
the bankruptcy case.
- This action came after a
reinstatement of the mort-
gage by the mortgage len-
der and a settlement with
the contractor.
Most of the money to pay
the creditors and reinstate
the mortgage came from
member families. accord-
ing to Allan.
However, Rabbi Seymour
Rosenbloom, spiritual lead-
er of the congregation, said
"Norman Allan was really
the key to putting this com-
mitment together. It might
not have been accomplished
without him. Not only did
he raise large- sums of
money from others, but
committed a considerable
amount of his own personal
funds."
Rabbi Rosenbloom will
make the award presenta-
tion to Allan at the dinner.
The attorneys to be hon-
ored at the dinner, most of
whom are not even mem-
bers of the congregation.
will receive awards in rec-
ognition of the legal assist-
ance rendered to the syna-
gogue.
Allan said that the at-
torneys "donated thousands
of dollars in legal services
