Law Dean Defines Commitment-to-Tradition Policy Addressing a gathering of associates of the Detroit Friends of Bar-Ilan Univer- sity, at an Aug. 10 parlor meeting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Norman Cohen preceeding next month's an- nual dinner, Prof. Arnold N. Enker, dean of the uni- versity's law school, de- scribed how "commitment to tradition" has given the college of law "The Best Disco In Town" utC AN KER4 f 4 5/4, ‘ ,,t v Disc Jockey Parties Dance S Special Occasions 144-0454 546-57971 in linking general law stud- ies with the roots of lega- cies in Jewish experiences. Prof. Enker said that the million or more Responsa, the questions and answers on matters of Jewish con- cern that have accumulated in Jewish historical re- cords, serve to indicate the Jewish influences on law, the rabbinic interpolations and the expertly defined regulations on moral codes. These responsa, the Bar- Ilan scholar said, have been computerized so completely at Bar-Ilan University in Ramat Gan, Israel, that they are a definite contribu- tion to Jewish law as stud- ied and taught in the Israel university. It is the emphasis on tra- dition, he said, that has in- spired students and teach- ers and has given the law school high status in the Middle East. Dr. Enker said that the school, Bar-Ilan's youngest department, was formed seven years ago with an in- tended enrollment of 30. The number was increased to 40 because of the great demand for admissions. Now the nearly 60 students receive such thorough train- ing that the law school's pol- icies are being emulated in other departments and by other universities. The meeting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Cohen was held to stimulate activities for the annual Bar-Ilan din- ner to be held Sept. 8 at Cong. Shaarey Zedek. The co-chairmen of the dinner committee, Irving Nusbaum and David Herme- lin, called for increased sup- port of the university and supervised enrollment of nu- , ew Uenektioit EXCITING GIRL'S BACK TO SCsti e lpit FASHIONS Expanded PRE-TEEN DEPT. Philip Stollman, global chairman of the board of governors of Bar-Ilan Uni- versity, reporting on the re- cent meeting of the board in Israel, indicated that im- mediate financial aid is needed for Bar-Ilan due to the Israel economic situa- tion which both reduces and postpones government as- sistance. He told of an emergency call for action which received a generous response of financial sup- port from a group of Great- er Detroit affiliates in the Bar-Ilan program. Dr. Emanuel Rackman, who has just been named president of Bar-Ilan Uni- versity, will address the an- nual dinner on Sept. 8.
