and folk singer and musi-
cian (acoustic 6-string and
12-string guitars and auto-
harp), ends his one-week
stint at Kit Cohen's Raven
Gallery, Greenfield and 12
Mile, this Sunday night.
COUNT BASIE and his or-
chestra will play a P'Jazz
special concert tonight, two
days before his 73rd birth-
day.
The concert is set for 8
p.m. on the outdoor terrace
at Hotel Pontchartrain, and
is in addition to the regular
Monday and Wednesday
P'Jazz concerts.
William ."Count" Basie
was born Aug. 21, 1904 in
Red Bank, N.J....leading
his band since 1935, and a
major force in music ever
since... He has received
about every honor and acco-
lade a musician can re-
ceive.
You can bet this is one
band the folks will sure
enjoy listening to.
FROM COOPENHAGEN,
Lieb Rosenberg sends us
the menu and wine list of
his beautiful Smaa Hjem
restaurant with its elegant
gourmet delights that make
you feel like taking a trip
there just to eat some of
his goodies... When Lieb was
in Detroit, there were few
better than him as a dining
operator.
THINGS HAVE BEEN
changed around quite a bit
at Northfield Hilton's Wick-
er Works and Hurl-
ey's...New Manager of
Wicker Works, Jim Hutton,
has been there just a mat-
ter of months and is ap-
plying his fine ideas to good
avail.
Wicker Works seats 206 in
three wide areas and delica-
tely-lit rooms...The black
bean soup laced with sherry
is delicious, and it has one
of the largest selections of
covered salad bars to be
had...a seemingly endless
array...Only thing missing
is chilled plates...Our wait-
er, Paul Scalzi, brought us
a juicy piece of prime rib.
At Hurley's Cocktail
Lounge, manager of only
four months is Bob Treza-
vant...Sign at the door as
you enter reads : "Nora will
pleased to seat
you."...This is pleasant, ef-
ficient and charmingly effer-
We've hime
over a
whole new leaf.
From the maze of hanging plants that are part of our new
casual look and feel. To our souper salad bar ... the biggest in
town, with twenty unusual fixings to make your salad something
pretty special. Plus homemade soup of
the day. Beef lovers will appreciate
our choicest of prime rib cuts in three
sizes from $7.95. Crepes lovers will
discover a new variety each evening for
just $5.95. Seafood fancier can select
broiled fish or sup lightly on soup and
STOUFFER'S NORTHLAND INN
salad for $4.75. And more.

vescent hostess Nora Fein-
berg.
On stage at Hurley's is
Nightflight through ,Sept.
3...good balance and poise
offered in professional pre-
sentation...The group plays
an even tempo, not too
loud, and keeps the place
jumping with its soft rock
beat...It is equally good on
danceable ballads which
they should play more
of...like songstress Liz Lach-
man's "Star World" offer-
ing, which she renders with
beautiful tonal ability...Her
authoritative command of
the mike is most promi-
nent, and Liz's rhythmic
movement to the band beat
as she sings disco-type
tunes is done with much
gusto...Nightflight is a high-
ly talented group of young
people definitely headed for
a bright future.
HERE'S
ANOTHER
corned beef name...Kelly
Corned Beef out of Chi-
cago...the only kind served
at Stage Delicatessen on
Nine Mile in Oak
Park...Owner Jack Gold-
berg says, "It's not the
name but how the corned
beef or pastrami is
cooked."...Kelly is dis-
tributed by Kay Lefkofsky
Co.
Jack's own gourmet cook-
ing comes out in his Jewish
dishes too...like the de-
licious Kasha Varnishkas
he makes even better than
the old fashion good
taste...and without any
greasiness... Whenever
people find out Jack is mak-
ing it, they flock from all
over, Jewish and non-Jew-
ish.
CHAMBERTIN in front
of the Holiday Inn between
Southfield and Telegraph, is
noted for its continental
and American cuisine...but
gaining a reputation for the
creation of new re-
cipies...Like Baked Shrimp
on Chemise Belle
Helene... jumbo shrimp
marinated in a special
blend of seasoning,
wrapped in buttered paper-
thin pastry and accom-
panied with Bernaise
sauce...or Medaillons de
Boeuf Vasili...named after
owner Gus Kokas' host son,
Bill Vasili Kokas...three
slices from the heart of
beef tenderloin, topped with
crabmeat, mushrooms and
Bernaise sauce.
YOU'LL BE ABLE to see
Dave Fekay on television
again...this time Aug. 25 at
7 a.m. on Vic Caputo's
"Good ' Morning Detroit"
show...Ch. 2... Dave will be
flaming one of the recipes
from his book, "Sensuous
Kitchen."
THE WILL-O-WAY Ap-
prentice Theater began op-
eration of The Kingswood
Theater, Woodward at
Square Lake Rd. in
Bloomfield Hills, with a
bright new policy of enter-
tainment emphasizing qual-
ity, good taste and
humor...The theater was
modified to allow the pre-
sentation of classic films
arid legitimate stage plays
in combination... Tentatively
scheduled is the showing of
classic movies 52 weeks of
the year and 13 legitimate
