LONG LIVE CRACKERS
Dinner Theater in the lower
level at Squire's Table, Pon-
tiac Trail and Commerce
Lake Rd. in Walled Lake.
This was our first visit to
the new Friday and Satur-
day evening setup and
thought it was to be up-
stairs in the regular dining
room...Instead, we were
ushered downstairs to dis-
cover a magic-like transfor-
mation to an intimiately de-
lightful dinner-theater at-
mosphere.
Dinner theater seems to
be one of the big things
today, but there is a differ-
ence in them...quite so, in
fact...Not heretofore being
too much of a dinner thea-
ter advocate, we had to be
convinced... and were...that
here was probably the fin-
est that could possibly be
presented anywhere.
Previous dinner theater
visits seemed to drift us
away as we encountered
varied experiences...The
very good buffet food, beau-
tiful selection, too, at Crack-
ers Dinner-Theater of
Squire's Table, is not
throwri-together platters of
stomach fillers...and seat-
ing for 150 is at separate
tables in an elegant environ-
ment.
On stage, one of Neil
Simons' best comedies,
"The Prisoner of Second
Ave.," starring WJR radio
personality Jimmy Launce
and a cast you could tell
had professionalism written
all over it, gives the capaci-
ty audience a performance
of complete enjoyment.
Jimmy is excellent...His
Jack Lemmon-like delivery
is quick, well-paced and
very choice...not wasting a
single one of his wonderful
lines...Jimmy's timing is su-
perb.
Crackers Dinner Theater
has been open only a month
in the lower level of
Squire's Table Restau-
rant...Sweet and most pleas-
ant waitresses like Debbie
Schneider must share bil-
ling with the entire package
of delicious food, theater
presentation of "The Prison-
er of Second Avenue" and
an atmosphere of classy in-
timacy.
Squire's Table upstairs
for continental dining still ,
ranks among the fin-
est...and now on Friday and
Saturday evenings its Crack-
ers Dinner Theater down-
stairs offers cause for addi-
tional pride to owners Bon-
nie and Norm LePage.
THE LANDING on - South-
field and 10 Mile Rd. has
not been sold...Forget the
rumors...However, it will
become a restaurant with a
name...same
new
Middle
owners...serving
East and American
food...name change will be
to The Sultan's Table.
EVERY YEAR, to cele-
brate its birthday, Sammy's
Deli on Nine Mile west of
Woodward in Ferndale,
owned by Sammy Sandler,
thinks up something differ-
ent...This year, number six
in the delicatessen-restau-
rant business, will be
"Floogie Dog Week"...from
Aug. 22 through Aug.
27...since it's also Floogie
Dog's sixth birthday.
"The Floogie Dog" is a
kosher hot dog, boiled and
put on a bun with green pep-
pers, tomatoes, dill pickles,
onions and mustard. It regu-
larly sells for $1.25 with
French fries...but during
the week celebration, price
will be dropped to 95 cents
with the fries.
Sammy has his Floogie
Dog registered with the
state of Michigan...and first
conveived its idea while vis-
iting in Chicago about
seven years ago...They
have what is called "Red
Hots"...It just came to him
that a kosher hot dog would
taste good with fresh vege-
tables on it.
The name was gotten
from an old song, "Flat
Foot Floojie With a Floy
Floy"...Sammy changed the
word to Floogie...and thus
was born his uniquely fla-
vored and good tasting
"Floogie Dog. "
JAZZ PIANIST Johnny
Guarnieri will be at the
Presidential Inn for a one-
nighter, Sept. 4, 7 to 11
p.m....1-75 at Northline and
Allen Rd. exit, South-
gate...He'll be backed by
local jazz gents, Johnny
Trudell, trumpet; Bob Sny-
der, clarinet; Al Winters,
trombone; J.C. Heard,
drums, and Will Austin,
bass...It'll be a Hot Jazz So-
ciety presentation.
CHILI?...You'll
LIKE
enjoy the home-cooked,
taste-tingling bowl full (no
cups of soup served here)
at Piper's Alley on Big Bea-
ver, just west of Coolidge,
in the Sheffield Office Plaza
in Troy...The chili is made
by a Lafayette Ave. coney
island lassie and was great
prior to our juicy ham-
burger there...Piper's Alley
in Troy serves meals, also,
to go along with the delight-
ful surroundings...and bevy
of guys 'n gals enjoying liq-
uid refreshment.
THE PRIME RIB ROOM
at The Other Place on Dou-
gall in Windsor serves just
that only—prime
rib...among the finest to be
had...and served with ele-
gant tableside deliv-.
erance...Prices are within
reason...and it's quite a
treat...There's dinner music
and dancing, too.
EVER HAVE AN egg con-
bomination?...One up and
one scramble?...Paul Don-
nelly will make it for you at
Benny's Deli in Oak
Park...Sort of takes away
the indecisiveness of which
way to have your eggs.
