'THE

Temple Israel Planning to Move to Suburbs

Leslie R. Schmier, who
served as president of
Temple Israel from 1961-63,
was re-elected to office at
the congregation's recent
annual meeting.
He will lead the temple
as it prepares to move
from its present Manderson
Rd. site in Detroit to a re-
cently-purchased 23-acre
site on Walnut Lake Rd. in
West Bloomfield.
In
assuming
office,
Schmier named Samuel W.
Barr to serve as chairman
of the building committee.
He also named the firm of
Tarapata, MacMahon, Paul-
sen Associates as architects
for the new building.
Others taking an active
role in the preliminary
stages of the building pro-
gram are Donald Barris,
Norman Sommers and
Erwin Ziegelman.
A campaign to raise $5
million for construction of
the new building is cur-
rently under way, with
some $2 million already se-
cured.
Elected to serve with
Schmier are Stanley Mil-
lman and Dr. Lowell J. Res-
sler, vice presidents; Mrs.
