has set a number of dead-
lines for receiving mail to
be delivered prior to the
Jewish New Year, accord-
ing to the U.S. Postal Serv-
ice.
All surface parcels should
be received in Israel by
Aug. 25; surface letters and
cards by Sept. 1; airmail
parcels by Sept. 6; and air-
mail letters and cards no
later than Sept. 8.
Local postmasters can be
consulted to determine the
length of time it will take
mail deposited at various
U.S. cities to reach Israel.

Amnon Linn, who has
been associated with the Is-
rael Foreign Ministry in de-
partments dealing with tour-
ism, has been named Mid-
west U.S. director of the Is-
rael Government Tourist
office, with headquarters at
5 Wabash, Chicago. He suc-
ceeds Rafael Daon who has
completed five years of
'service as Midwest direc-
tor.
Born in Jerusalem in
1937, Linn was educated in
Jerusalem schools, earned
his BA at the Hebrew Uni-
versity in 1962 and an MA
at Roosevelt University,
Chicago, in 1971, special-
izing in economics and his-
tory.
He was a shaliakh, an em-
issary, from Israel, from
1963 to 1966, serving the
Bnai Brith youth depart-
ment's cultural services.
Linn expressed the hope
that interest in tourism will
increase, especially during

NEW YORK—The Ameri-
can Jewish Congress last
week hailed the action of
Federal Judge John F. Dool-
ing, Jr. in ordering the De-
partment of Health, Educa-
tion and Welfare to contin-
ue making Medicaid funds
available to states that
wanted to use them for elec-
tive abortions.
Mrs. Leona Chanin, -co-
chairman of the congress'
national 'governing council,
said the judge's order was
a "sensitive and sensible
recognition of the serious
harm that would follow the
sudden termination of Fed-
eral funding,- of abortions
the approaching 30th Israel
anniversary year.
Visiting

this
week, he consulted tourist
and travel agents and ar-
ranged for special services
to be provided by the Israel
Government Tourist Office.
Linn, his wife and three
children arrived from Is-
rael last month and are
now settled in Chicago for
the duration of his service
in this country.
