to Education Post

Dr. Justin Lewis. educa-
tional consultant to the
United Hebrew Schools 43f
Metro Detroit and professor
of education and Jewish
thought at the Midrasha,
has accepted the post of ex-
ecutive director of the De-
partment of Jewish educa-
tion of Greater New Haven.
Conn.. an agency of that
city's Jewish federation.
Dr. Lewis.' who assumes
his new post on Sept. 1. will
be the coordinator of all the
Jewish education programs
both formal and informal
on the elementary. second-
ary and adult levels of his
new community.
He edited the Midrasha
Journal and authored nu-
merous articles and pub-
lications for use in the
UHS. Before joining the
UHS in 1975. he was assist-
ant professor of education
at Brooklyn College from
1968 to 1975.

Join Israel Parley

TEL AVIV (JTA)—Seven-
ty-seven science enthusiasts
from 11 countries are partic-
ipating in the Weizmann In-
stitute's annual inter-
national summer institute
in Rehovot.
The teenagers are from
the United States, Cananda,
Holland, Sweden, Belgium,
Britain, - Italy, Switzerland,
West Germany, Israel and
the Dominican Republic.
They are divided into small
groups specializing in labo- .
ratory work in physics, biol-
ogy, chemistry and math-
ematics.
The youngsters will work
two weeks in laboratories
and then' tour the country to
socialize with Israeli youth.
They will also spend sever-
al days in the Negev study-
ing the flora and fauna of
the desert region.

1961 with a major in history
and anthropology. In 1963
he earned an MA degree in
political science at the Uni-
versity of Pittsburgh and en-
tered the U.S. Foreign Serv-
ice, serving in London as
third secretary and vice
consul, and later in Bogota.
in 1968 he studied in the
.;raduate department of Co-
lumbia University and in
1970 was administrative di-
rector of graduate studies
at Ben-Gurion University.
In 1972 he became a senior
comptroller.
Berman will oversee
aliya activities for Mich-
igan, Toledo, Windsor and
South Bend. Ind.
