POST

THE DINNER honoring

former Detroiter Sid Hud-
son as national man of the
year by City of Hope, will
be held March 12, at the Hil-
ton International Hotel in
Las Vegas, where Sid
reigns in prominency.
Ruby Samson of Elkin
Tours and. Mr. and Mrs.
Group, City of Hope head,
will have a 747 plane on
hand for those going , to the
dinner from Detroit.
The Detroit Business-
men's Group will fete Sid
on his next visit here
around August 16 or there-
abouts.
TOP SOVIET gymnasts,
Drs. Zena and Vladimer
Mironov, are at the 10 Mile
branch of the Jewish Com-
munity Center, conducting
two four-week sessions,
plus a year-long Olympic
and Modern Rhythmic Gym-
nastic program for aspiring
young folks.
The two Soviet -gymnasts
have been in the U.S. just
two years, previously rising
to the high honor of Master
of Sport of the USSR, plus
serving as national gymnas-
tic judges in that country
as well...For info on the
JCC class schedules, call
967-4030 or 355-9166.
NOTICING THAT little
Judy was struggling with
an ear of corn, her mother,
Joanne Wisper, offered to
cut off the kernels..."No,"
said six-year-old Judy, "I
like it on the bone."
IF SOMEONE tells you
they had their hair done at
the Slaughter House it's no
lie...that's how therhone is
answered at Charter House
Barbers on Nine Mile...and
also what their card
reads...One of the owners,
Al Nettle, is known as "Big
Al"...The other owner is
- Royal Highness Calley
(that's actually his real
name) ...Others are "Ter-
rible Terry", "Frightful
Franco," "Horrible How-
ard" and "Ruthless Ron."
SEEING SIGNS...by Ir-
ving Feldman of Livernois-
Davison Florists...at the
gate - of a ceme-
tery..."Persons are prohibit-
ed from picking flowers
from any but their own
grave."

FIVE YEARS AGO,

Ernie Backalar and Laura
Philips approached Judie
and Jerry Weisman with
the idea of having a carniv-
al in the back yard with pro-
ceeds going to Muscular
Dystrophy... Since then, it
has mushroomed into an
elaborate neighborhood
event, mainly promoted by
Jerry, Ernie and Dave Otis,
who work tirelessly through-
out the year preparing for
the carnival.
Each year they try to
have something differ-
ent...One time it was a
Moon Walk, last year there
were Tractor Rides and
this year they are getting a
1963 Cadillac to smash
down for Muscular Dys-
trophy, plus hopes for a dun-
king machine... (Mind you,
this is only a back yard

setup )...There is a big
white elephant sale, spook
house and many
gamesr..Jerry initiated the
rule of every child getting a
prize whether they win or
not.
This Sunday is their fifth
annual carnival...at 29709
Brentwood in South-
- field...12:30 to 5:30...with
plenty of popcorn, hot dogs,
pop and a sno-cone ma-
chine, too.
LEE TREPECK, nine-
year-old son of Sheila and
Larry Trepeck, would like
to be a singer...If determi-
nation is anything, he
should become a successful
one...Recently, Sheila and
Larry took children, Jef-
frey, Lee and Stacey for din-
ner...Lee asked the pianist
if he would accompany him
to "I Sing The Songs"...and
received large applause
from the entire restaurant
after finishing... But this
isn't all Lee wants to
do...he's interested in writ-
ing songs also... Remember
his name...proud grand-
parents Conalee and Robert
Trepeck are sure he's going
to be big someday.
CONGRATS...to
Evelyn
and Hy Lewis on their 40th
wedding anniversary.

THE STANDARD CLUB

of Detroit moves from De-
troit Sheraton in September
to the Detroit Plaza at Ren-
aissance Center...in a pri-
vate facility that will be
one of the foremost around
anywhere...lavishly beauti-
ful and elegantly practical.

FEW PEOPLE go to more

showers than Rose Gut-
tman of Irving's Deli...In
two weeks recently, for ex-
ample, she went to 13 show-
ers...invited to three in one
day...able to make two of
them.
DISA 'N DATA...Bea and
Irving Keys kissing each
other at the net before
going into their game of
tennis...a real love
match...Barrister Abe
Schmier always with candy
for kids and grownups—
anytime, anyplace... never
giving teensy youngsters
any without parent's per-
mission.„.Rita Abrams a
bleeper galore at airports if
she doesn't show her spe-
cial card...calls herself a
"bionic woman" after arth-
ritis caused portion of her
body to be replaced by
metal and plastics...Nice
guy Eli Fishman a dynamo
of energy on the tennis
courts...Lou Sarko smoking
cigars that taste and smell
like vanilla... Eddie Wolfe
due in from Florida next
week...Ernie Iczkovitz look-
ing great...retiree§ soon
from the Internal Revenue
Service... "again."

KIDDIE KORNER...Five-

year-old Barbara Mintz,
daughter of Rita and Sol
Mintz, saying her go-to-bed
prayers in a very low
voice...and Rita whispering
that she couldn't hear her...
"Wasn't talking to you,"
said little Barbara.
