semi-darkness, working on-
ly by the light which
streamed in from windows,
in the hope of publishing a
Daily News Bulletin and get-
ting the news out to its sub-
scribers domestically and
abroad. But the blackout
continued too late into the
afternoon.
For many of the Jewish
merchants whose stores
were ravaged, the night of
terror meant more than fi-
nancial loss or even bank-

was: that's how it began in
Germany."

Israel Radio began every
hourly news broadcast with
details from New York as
reports filtered through dur-
ing the day from news
agencies and Israeli journal-
ist in the blacked-out out
city. Meanwhile, it was im-
possible to place any tele-
phone calls from Israel to
New York because the pow-
er failure disrupted in-
coming calls.
Israeli Invents No-Fuel Engine
TEL AVIV—Israeli inven-
tor Yigal Mossinsohn says
he has devised an under-
water engine that could gen-
erate power without the use
of conventional fuels.
Mossinsohn says the de-
vice would operate sub-
merged in water and con-
sist of a series of chambers
arranged along a contin-
uous belt-. The gas-filled
chambers would rise to the
surface and the natural
