REAL HAPPY HOUR

was recent Mike Douglas
Show on Channel 2 . . . with
oodles of folks gathering in
the V lounge at Town and
Country Club to watch MD,
partake of hors d' oeuvres
and drinks . . . and watch
TC General Manager Dave
Fekay do his culinary stuff
assisted by Mike, Neil Se-
daka and Robert Goulet.
When Dave's name was
flashed as one of those on
the show, there came a big
roar, led by Joe Silbers-
chein, bevys of hand-
clapping by the many who
came wearing anything .. .
health club duds, street
clothes, shorts, etc. . . . and
Dave's sweet wife Joann
echoing the thoughts of
many in saying, "I'm so
proud of him.
It was Dave's first ap-
pearance on national tele-
vision . . . but cut to only 10
minutes . . . No doubt folks
all over the country would
have wanted more . .. Per-
haps he can be invited back
again and given ample time
to really do his thing .. .

home-cooked lasagna din-

chartered this for Manches-
ter, Mich., southwest of
Ann Arbor.
Occasion was first produc-
tion of Neil Simon's "Star-
Spangled Revue" which
stars Stan Gill, son of Ber-
nice and Jack . . . It is the
first of five shows to be
shown at the recently reno-
vated 110-year-old opera
house.
Plus a strong actor, Stan
is also a director, designer,
producer and one of the
founders of the Black Sheep
Repertory Theater.
After the show, pie and
coffee was served at the
104-year-old Black Sheep
Tavern across the street.
NEW LOOK WILL be at
Topinka's Country House, 7
Mile and Telegraph, in
couple of weeks . . . One of
the dining areas is being
sacrificed for dancing and
orchestras with big band
sounds.
Owner Al Balooly is going
all out . . . even shortening
the menu . . . Time-old
name of Topinka's may
even eventually be changed
in the all-new image pro-
gram.
QUIET, INTIMATE, re-
laxing and an elegant at-
mosphere to go with good
food and service . . . Hardly
much more a person can
ask than that gotten at
Bloomfield Canopy on Or-
chard Lake Rd. and Maple
. . You don't sit hungry
here waiting for your food,
either, because as soon as

you are seated, a crock of
cheese and bread basket
are brought immediately.
We had a very good wait-
ress . . . most attentive and
pleasant . . . Laura Shafer,
a Bloomfield Canopy stanby
for 14 years . . . After tak-
ing orders, chopped lettuce
is brought to you along with
varied ingredients to make
your own salad at the table.
We had a delicious piece
of prime rib and enjoyed
the soft piano stylings of
Vicki Barnett . . . Others
with us will go baCk again

You'll like Bloomfiew
Canopy . . . it has a charm
that can't be forgotten.
IF SID HUDSON accepts
the high honor of National
Man Of The Year by City of
Hope in Duarte, Calif., he
will be only about the 15th
to receive this great award.
It would be held in Las
Vegas, where Sid has lived
31 years . . . and the star-
studded lineup that would.
attend his dinner would no
doubt be among the great-
est assemblage of entertai-
ners and celebrites ever
gathered at one time.
Sid may accept . . . be-
cause the City of Hope is be-
ginning to do research work
into Ileitis, with which one
of his family is afflicted .. .
A foundation in his name
would be for the research
into a cure of Ileitis . . .
Sid is going from city to
city at his own expense,
"feeling out" the nation as
to how much money can be
raised . . . Whatever is gath-
ered for Sid will be
matched by the U.S. govern-
ment.
Sid was in Detroit last
week . . . After 31 years, he
had to register all over
again at the Flamingo
Hotel in Vegas, where he
has lived all this time . . .
The Flamingo went on com-
puter and Sid became a
"new guest" once more .. .
that is, only as far as the
computer was concerned.
Of course, other things
have changed quite a bit
there too ... like still anoth-
er 500 rooms to be added by_
next May . . . and the pre-
sent dollar slot machine
only one of its kind in Las
Vegas that has a $215,000
jackpot payoff.
GET WELL WISHES
to Larry Nemzin, trum
gent with New York Ex-
press group . . . at Sinai
Hospital.
THIS MONDAY'S first
half finale of Chuck Muer's

ond half, Aug. 1, follow"

Dorsey ork, Fats Domino;

note . . . Jimmy Wilkens,

cert Jazz and Brookside En-
semble with very fine vocal-
ist Ursula Walker.
The Four Lads this Mon-
day will make for hand-
holding and nostalgia . . .
