Hurite Seeking
Re-Election
Steve S. Hurite, former
city council president and
mayor pro-tern of South-
field, has announced his
candidacy for re-election to
the Southfield City Council.
A six-year city council
veteran who has been ac-
tive in Southfield - govern-
ment and civic affairs for
nearly two decades, Hurite
was a member of the city
council from 1969 to 1975
and was mayor pro-tern dur-
ing his last two years in of-
fice. He also served on the
zoning board of appeals
from 1961 to 1969, as chair-
man and secretary.
A Southfield resident for
19 years, Hurite began his
involvement in civic affairs
with the Ranchwood Civic
Association, serving as pres-
ident from 1959 until joining
the zoning board of appeals
two years later. He was in-
strumental in organizing
several inter-religious activ-
ities, particularly with
Cong. Shaarey Zedek.
Citizens for Life
Plan Convention
The fourth annual Mich-
igan Citizens for Life Con-
vention will be held Oct. 14-
15 at the Sheraton South-
field Hotel. President of
this year's host organiza-
tion is Diane Fagelman, of
Lifespan, Inc.
