WSU Hillel Solicits Pledges

Members of Wayne State
University's Hillel Founda-
tion have solicited more
than $1,700 in pledges from
students to the Allied Jew-
ish Campaign-Israel Emer-
gency Fund.
In a 20-hour telethon, a
dozen Hillel members con-
tacted 700 Wayne Students
to ask for contributions.
About 240 students made
pledges, said Wayne cam-
paign chairman Michelle
Goldman.
Working with Miss Gold-
man were Ruth Indenbaum,
Jody Jacobs, Burt Kide-
ckel, Robert Kimmel,
Larry Kritzer, Laura La-
zarus, Dan Pernick, Nat
Pernick, Steve Scherr, Sue
Sugarman and Sheldon
White.
Mark Diamond, a United
Jewish Appeal campus coor-
dinator, helped the workers
learn solicitation techniques
and kept in touch with them
throughout the telethon.

Hebrew University Vice
President Bernard Cherrick
will be awarded an honor-
ary doctorate by Nothern
Michigan University during
summer commencement
Aug. 6.
Cherrick has been vice
president of the Hebrew
University of Jerusalem,
since 1968. An inter-
nationally known educator
who has served as vice pres-
ident of the International
Association of University
Presidents, Cherrick was di-
rector of the Jewish Nation-
al Fund and United Pales-
tine Appeal, of Great Brit-
ain from 1944 to 1947.
Cherrick will be in the De-
troit area Aug. 8 to confer
with Michigan chapter,
American Friends of Hebr-
ew University, at the home
of Mr. and Mrs. Erwin C.
Ziegelman.
Northern Michigan Uni-
versity will also-honor K-
Mart Corp. board chairman
Robert E. Dewar and para-
sitologist Maybelle Hutson
Chitwood.
