litation Service. Some of
these agencies provided ma-
terial support to JVS,
others provided guidance
and services which were
vital to its program,
Hertzberg went on to note
that the staff of the JVS
was not only directly in-
volved in providing' high
quality services to its
clients but were playing ac-
tive leadership roles in a va-
riety of professional associ-
ations.
During the next year the
agency plans to develop a
Senior•Citizen Corps which
has been funded by the Jew-
ish Community Foundation
and expand its staff in De-
troit to include an industrial
engineer who would modify
the workshop equipment so
as to better accommodate
severely disabled people.
Hertzberg also noted that
it was the plan of the
agency to de-velop a satel-
lite and suburban office in
.Oakland County that would
nearly double the agency's
capacity to be of service to
the community. The execu-
tive director, Albert I. As-
cher, reported on highlights
of the agency's professional
achievements during the

abled individuals to work in
competitive industry; anoth-
er program that demon-
strated that a group of pre-
viously unemployable men-
tal patients could work;
and a growing demand for
counseling and placement
services at the agency's
Southfield office. In addi-
tion, he noted that during
the past year staff had de-
veloped an objective sys-
tem for evaluating the effec-
tiveness of its service.
Among the guests receiv-
ing special recognition was
Hal Ewing, producer of a
Channel 56 television docu-
mentary describing the
work of JVS. The TV pro-
duction which was first pre-
sented last winter was rebr-
oadcast earlier this month.,
Hertzberg awarded the
"Employer of the Year"
award to the Albion Corp.
for "outstanding coopera-
tion for providing employ-
ment opportunity for vo-
cationally handicapped
workers. '
The "Contractor of the
Year Award" was made to
Rafal Spice Corp. for "out-
standing cooperation in the
advancement of a rehabilita-
tion program for vocatio-
nally handicapped work-
ers." A special award was
given by Hertzberg on be-
half of the board of trustees
to the Framecrest Corp. for
",outstanding cooperation in
Providing worksite eval-
uations for persons with se-
vere disabilities."
