Apostles were Jews, since _
Jesus was a child of 'the
synagogue ("And then as
was his custom he went
into the sunagogue on the
Sabbath day" Luke 4:16),
since every Christian feeds
his soul — as did his Lord
— on the history of Israel,
the Psalms and Prophets,
anti-Semitism is an attack
upon Jesus, Mary, Joseph,
Paul and Peter.
, "I have always been
taught that all men, myself
included, were responsible
for the Crucifixion, because
the sins that led to the
cross were typical human
sins which are evident in us
and all men.
"Anti-Semitism is seen in

its full horror, so far as
Christian faith is con-
cerned, when we see the
meaning of one of Christ's
most mysterious sayings.
In Matthew 25:40 He identi-
fied Himself with all men,
saying, "Inasmuch as ye
have done it unto one of the
least of these my brethren,
ye have done it unto me"
He placed eternal signifi-
cance behind our treatment
of our fellows.

"Anti-Semitism is vi-
ciously unjust and is a de-
nial of the God of love, who
asks justice of His people.
Since Jesus of Nazareth
was a Jew, since He was a
particular person living in a
particular place (Pales-
tine), it was inevitable that
some Jews were connected
with His death — just as
some Americans have been
connected with regrettable
incidents in our history.
"But to leap from that
fact to collective responsi-
bility is as unjust as having
your children mistreated be-
cause of American atro-
cities in Vietnam.
"I began by saying that
never in my experience in
the church have I encoun-
tered any teacher, preacher
or writer who taught anti-
Semitism or held the Jews
corporately responsible for
/the • Crucifixion. On the con-
trary !
