LISTENING
POST

EDWARD HURVITZ, son

of Rae and Harold Hurvitz,
earned all "A's" in English
and science for three years
at Southfield High, but
didn't receive his well-de-
served "pay" for those
years of hard work.
It is the custom of South-
field High to announce
these honors as the gradu-
ate crosses the stage to re-
ceive his or her diploma ...
Although all others were an-
nounced, through a mix-up,
Edward's were not read.
Ed didn't get the cheers
other all-A students re-
ceived, but one thing they
can't take away are those
fabulous marks ... and the
love of a very devoted fam-
ily.
EX-DETROITERS living
in Florida meet a lot of
folks from yesteryears by
going to one of a few De-
troit clubs in the Miami
area ... Latest one was
started last November by
Betty and Jules Steinberg
after the others seemed too
crowded ... Its called The
Detroit Floridians ... with
87 members almost all Jew-
ish and in their 60's ... For-
mer localites living in the
Miami region who want to
find out more can call 947-
0848.
JOTTINGS AT Jewish Na-
tional Fund Affair honoring
Evelyn and Dave Zack ...
All kinds of dress—in-
vitation said optional and
folks sure did it their way
Shaarey Zedek caterer
Marvin Siegel minus 78
pounds since last year's
shindig ... Gals of JNF at
table giving out seating
cards all so very pleasant
as usual ... Irwin Cohn pout-
ing, "They tell me that I'm
sitting on the dais. My wife
and I aren't dressed." ...
They sat there anyway ...
Norman Cottler dressed in
sartorial elegance ... You
should have seen Harry Kol-
tonow's slacks ... Dr. Mark
Caminker of Sinai Hospital
a bit lost, so used to being
surrounded by Max Shaye's
paintings ... Max was in per-
son, though, as dinner co-
chairman ... Dave Zack
choking a bit as he started
to talk, took some water
and it was worse ... Goldie
Adler came over and said,
. "Take some wine. It's' bet-
ter for you." .

THOUGHT COMES
THAT ash' trays on tables

at affairs are there for a
purpoe ... so those who
don't like smoke should sit
elsewhere and permit
others to smoke in comfort.
IT'S NEVER TOO late to
wish belated birthday con-
grats ... Our best to Rose .
Guttman of Irving's Delica-
tessen.
BARBARA ESKIN, who
will complete her studies at
Hebrew University in Au-
gust, is the only student of
five localites who took a
complete course in Jerusa-
lem ... She has been there
since 1974 ... and will make
her home in Israel ... Bar-
bara was elected by the stu-
dent body to represent the

SIXTH ANNUAL Theater
Party by Detroit Chapter,
Bnai Brith, was another
booming success ... the gals
taking over both Northland
Twin Theaters for a pre-
preview of "New York,
New York" with Peter De
Niro stealing the movie
from -co-star Liza Minnelli
. As usual, the Detroit
Chapter gals did a great
job of selling tickets and
coordinating the event ...
There Were so many
people, that coming out of
the theater sounded like a
waterfall avalanche of buz-
zing density !

only as far as his books,
and a man should sell all
he may possess to buy
books. For as our sages
