Bnai Brith District 6 to Expand
Activities; Wenstein 70th Cited
Miller to Direct
Local Congregation
More than 200 delegates
from Bnai Brith lodges -in
eight states and four Cana-
dian provinces, meeting for
three days during the a
past weekend at the Mich-
igan Inn, acted to expand
activities in many of the
movement's fields of en-
deavor.
Bnai Brith District 6, at
the annual sessions here, re-
viewed youth, Hillel, civic
protective and other activi-
ties and authorized actions
to be pursued for increased
functions in all these areas.
Addressing the opening
dinner meeting of the con-
vention Sunday evening,
Dr. Daniel Thursz, execu-
tive vice president of Inter-
national Bnai Brith, out-
lined the challenges to the
movement and urged in-
creased support to obviate
many of the financial prob-
lems that stand in the way
of increased activities on be-
half of the youth movement
and other Bnai Brith proj-
ects.
Dr. Thursz, thoroughly
analyzing the status of Bnai
Brith programming, invited
membership pos -ticipation
in tasks that have made pos-
sible the Hillel and youth
movements and the civic
protective roles which have
given the movement organi-
zational leadership in Amer-
ican Jewry.
Sol Moss, who chaired the
convention committee when
the 99th annual District 6
sessions were held here at
the then Book Cadillac
Hotel, 10 years ago, again
headed the convention com-
mittee for the current 109th
annual district meeting. He
greeted the delegates and
directed the arrangements
for the many sessions and
plenaries held during the
three-day convention.
The convention was occa-
sion to honor Milton Weins-
tein on his 70th birthday.
Dr. Irving Miller was
elected president of the Bir-
mingham Temple at the
congregation's annual meet-
ing.
Other officers are James
Reiter and Lynne Silver-
berg. vice presidents; Don-
ald Sugerman, treasurer;
and Melvin Bernstein, exec-
utive secretary.

BUENOS AIRES (JTA)—
The Foreign Minister of Ar-
gentina, Vice Admiral
Oscar A. Montes, said at a
press conference here that
his government has repu-
diated "any action attempt-
ing to disturb the social
order by discrimination
based on faith or ethnic ori-
gin."
He made the statements
when asked about press re-
ports abroad of anti-Semi-
tism in Argentina.
Montes said "The Argen-
tine government's position
on this matter is quite clear
and those who attempt to
distort it are serving objec-
tives not related in any way
with the concerns of some
of these foreign pub-
lications."
He cited specific in-
stances, such as the govern-
ment's closure of two pub-
lishing houses that were dis-
tributing Nazi and anti-
Semitic literature and other
material "contrary to the
national spirit and vision of
our society."
He said the government
has stressed "its firm will
to stop these who wish to
disturb the harmonious co-
existence of the Argentine
people, whatever their faith
or origin."
NEW YORK — Rabbi
Chaim U. Lipschitz, vice
president of Yeshiva Torah
Vodaath and Mesivta of
Brooklyn, opened the
United States Senate with a
prayer June 9.
Former Vice President
and President, Richard M.
Nixon, first invited Rabbi
Lipschitz in 1958 at which
time he became the first Or-
thodox rabbi to be accorded
the honor. Lipschitz is the
first Orthodox rabbi in the
United States to be invited
five times to offer the open-
ing prayer.
