FRANK COLLIN

The writers said Collin is
the son of Max Simon Cohn,
a Dachau concentration
camp
survivor who
changed - his name and be-
came a Chicago business
man,
They said Frank Collin
was kicked out of the Amer-
ican Nazi Party in 1970 be-
cause of his Jewish back-
ground. Last year Collin
helped organize the Nation-
al Socialist Congress, with
ties in the U.S., Canada and
West Germany, because he

The U.S. Supreme Court
two weeks ago ordered the
Illinois courts to re-View
legal restrictions blocking
the Nazis' planned demon-
stration on Monday.
Wednesday, the Illinois
Appelate Court ended the
threat of a July 4 march by
setting a July 8 hearing
date of a lower court's in-
junction against the march.
The village of Skokie also
refused to issue the Nazis a
parade permit.
Collin was interviewed on
Detroit's Ch. 2 by Joe Glo-
ver following the Supreme
Court decision, and his un-
challenged spouting of "de-
Negrofication" of U.S.
cities prompted Ch. 2's Be-
verly Payne to quit her job.
Miss Payne returned to
work Wednesday evening.
Station manager Bob
McBride apologized on the
6 p.m. newscast to Miss
Payne and to viewers who
were offended by the inter-
view.
Last week, Rabbi Meir
Kahane of the militant Jew-
ish Defense League warned
that if the Nazis tried to
demonstrate in Skokie "sev-
eral thousand Jews" will
use "violence, and blood" to
prevent the demonstration.
A JDL spokesman on
Wednesday said 800-1,000
JDL members would be in
Skokie.

Remains Reburied of Victims of Nazis
AMSTERDAM (JTA) —
The remains of more than
100 men, women and chil-
dren, mostly Jews, murder-
ed by Nazis in the Lemberg
area of Poland in 1941,
were reburied last week.
The bones were exhumed
from a mass grave near
Uryce village in the pres-
ence of a delegation from
the Amsterdam District At-
torney's office in con-
nection with the war crimes
trial of Pieter Menten.
They were identified by
pathologists as the remains
of at least 94 adults and 20

children and an undeter-
mined number of infants.
All were shot or bludgeoned
to death on Aug. 27, 1941
when Menten, a millionaire
Dutch art dealer, was serv-
ing in an SS unit in the re-
gion.
The Dutch teams also
found evidence to corrobo-
rate the testimony of a pros-
ecution witness, Michael
Hauptmann, now a resident
of Stockholm, who testified
that he witnessed the mass
killings from an attic hide-
out. Menten's defense law-
yers have attempted to dis-
credit Hauptmann and
other prosecution wit-
nesses.
JERUSALEM (JTA)-
The Israel government an-
nounced several appoint-
ments to key posts in the
machinery of government.
Most are long time associ-
ates of Premier Menahem
Begin and members of his
inner circle.
Dr. Eliayhu Ben-Eliassar
was named director general
of the prime minister's of-
fice, replacing Amos Eran.
Arye Naor was named Cabi-
net Secretary, replacing
Gershon Avenr. Eli Miz-
rahi, former director of for-
mer Premier Yitzhak
Rabin's office, will serve
the Begin government in
the sam capacity.
The appointment of Naf-
tali Lavi as the new spokes-
man for the Foreign Min-
istry came as a surprise to
ministry officials who had
expected the job to go to a
professional within the for-
eign service establishment.
Until now, Lavi served as
defense ministry spokes-
man and was close to For-
eign Ministrer Moshe
Dayan when the latter was
defense minister. He served
in the same capacity when
Shimon Peres succeeded
Dayan.
Isreal's new Defense Min-
ister, Gen. Ezer Weizman,
took over that office from
Shimon Peres in a ceremo-
ny of military pagenantry
in the defense ministry
courtyard.
