Hirschmann, a former
United States envoy in Tur-

Middle East in 1960 under
the auspices of the U.S.
State Department and the
United Nations. He visited
Syria, Jordan, Lebanon and
the Gaza Strip.

sands from the Nazis. He
was also instrumental in
bringing about the revoca-
tion of anti-Semitic laws in
Bulgaria. He became Spe-
cial Inspector General of
the United Nations Relief
and Rehabilitation Adminis-
tration, for which he reor-
ganized the Displaced Per-
sons camps in Germany.
Hirschmann is a member
of the board of governors of
the Hebrew University and
is a former member of the
Board of Higher Education
of New York, and former
chairman of the board of
trustees of the New School
for Social Research.

man House in New York, future home of the Tarbuth Foun-
dation for the Advancement of Hebrew Culture and the
Hebrew Arts School for Music and Dance. Shown above,
